Blog Entry: These days just about anyone with a bit of diy ability can build an electric guitar. There is no complicated soundbox to construct, infact the body of the guitar is usually made of a hardwood and can be any shape you want. The neck is a bit more complicated, you need to consider scale length and get accurate spacing of the frets, although bolt on necks are readily available finished and ready to install. You will need [link="http://www.janika.co.uk/Pickups.php"]Pickups[/link], which can be single coil ( as used on a stratocaster) or twin coil humbuckers as used on the Les Paul types. You will need a [link="http://www.janika.co.uk/Guitar_Bridges.php"]bridge[/link]. A fixed or hardtail bridge is probably best for a first project. You will also require [link="http://www.janika.co.uk/Machine_Heads.php"]machine heads[/link]. which should be the correct type to fit your neck, ie. inline or 3 a side.
