I'm what I call a born again guitarist. in my younger days I played a lot starting in local folk clubs and ending up in a rock band with all styles and shades in between. Then came all the other bits proper jobs wife kids commitment, but now the kids are grown [but still dependents] so I have resumed my search for the holy grail, can I remember how to play this thing? well sort of, not so well at the momment but its comming back to me slowly and I've branched out I'm starting to make one of these things I'll let you know how it goes. You know playing music is catching my wife now plays sax and my son plays drums and my daughter plays on my good nature.

I Guess I'm a bit like that.

Learnt a few chords at school and College, didn't really do much until I joined the church music group - the first time I played with them I was still finding the first chord and they were on the chorus!

I have been very lucky with my sons' music interests. The older one played keyboards from his mid-teens and if he had'nt asked me to take him to "hear a man playing a real Hammond organ" when he was 16, I would probably never have discovered jazz. We still go to jazz gigs together.

My other son asked to learn electric bass when he was thirteen on the basis  that bassists were hard to find. He still plays bass and guitar and is a far better player than I am.

Both of them played in groups before they left school which is when I had to learn guitar repairs and set ups, which led to making a Gibson Explorer copy . . .
