Blog started part way through the build of a maple body, alpine spruce OM style guitar, so apologies for the big gaps.
Story so far...
Soundboard, back and sides already completed, top glued to sides.
Today, clamping the back to the sides. I've used a clamping caul for this in the past but have had small gaps at headblock seen through the soundhole. Think I might try a different approach today to make sure it glues up tight on the head block. More later...
Thats that then... Back glued on using a new caul and no gaps!
Just trimmed back the overhang with the laminate trimmer but the bearing must be a bit tight, its marked the sides, fairly badly at the headstock end where the angle is worst. Oh well, a bit of scraping to do...
Just ripped and planed some Mahogany strips for binding and glued BWB purfling to them. Should be ready to rout the bindling ledges tomorrow. I hope I'm not alone in this but routing the binding ledges makes me nervous...
Bent the binding last night in my homemade bending jig (anyone interested in this please contact me
)
Routed the ledges for the binding today using the laminate trimmer on running rails and the body in a moving jig, all seems well
. Just about to carve out the material for the end flash.
...Oh dear. (Swears loudly)
Chasing out the material to fit the end flash and didn't score deep enough into the body. A splinter split away from the bottom. Just put some glue inder it and clamped it back the best I can, but because it's maple it might be a visible repair. Fingers crossed it doesnt show.
Completed the body. See pic below (others on gallery)

I've finished preshaping the neck using some american hard maple, Just cut the dovetail pin on the neck and socket on the body and glued it up last night. I'll post a pic or two later.
