Totally agree with you, Chris.
There are so many opportunities on WWW to hear music almost accidentally. But for me the great site is YouTube. It's led me to music I would never have heard otherwise, helped me learn new songs, helped me remember stuff I'd nearly forgotten.
But the tab sites are fantastically useful too. I know I progress faster now in terms of learning new stuff because it's easy to find an ice breaker on the net.
I really hope that the music companies and the American Music Publishers Association fail in their attempt to control these recources. There is a chance for real revolution here in the way that music is disseminated. I appreciate that creative artists need to be compensated for their effort and talent, but it is time that the large vested interests released their stranglehold on the body of music and enabled its wider distribution. There are many artistes out there who understand this (Show of Hands encourage people to copy their cd's and distribute them, many artistes have made songs available free).
But I fear that the vested interests will prevail in the end.

This always seems to happen. I hear that the Performing Rights Society are now targeting companies with music on hold on their telephone systems.

Madness!
But the WWW is, I feel, an incredible tool to be used by those of us who love music. After all, most of us would never have communicated with each other were it not for the WWW, would we?
