Default Jerry Reed

Jerry Reed, whose propulsive "claw" style brought a new voice to the nylon string guitar, died on Monday. Although well known for the movies he made with Burt Reynolds, Jerry was a musician and a songwriter at heart. At a time when Nashville was turning to a generic crossover formula - ironically, largely nfluenced by the production style of Jerry's sometime collaborator Chet Atkins - he was turning out pared down, soul inflected albums like Nashville Underground, and experimenting with subtle instrumental touches from piano and harpsichord.

As a songwriter he had several country and crossover hits, and hsi Guitar Man was picked up by Elvis Presley, right down to the backing track on which Jerry brought the spirit of Chuck Berry to nylon strings.
