Doyle Dykes, one of country music’s finest pickers, is set to appear at the London Acoustic Show held at London’s Olympia Conference Centre on September 12 & 13 2015. Doyle will hold both a masterclass and main stage performance – as well as a meet and greet during the show.
Influenced by a wide variety of musical styles and musicians from the Country Music stylings of Chet Atkins to the rock and roll of Duane Eddy, the Beatles, the Allman Brothers and U2, acclaimed guitar virtuoso Doyle Dykes – widely cited along with guitarists such as Tommy Emmanuel as one of the best finger-style guitarists in the world – has developed a distinct, recognizable sound that amazes audiences with skill while capturing hearts with sincerity and soul.
The Jacksonville, Florida native is an endorser of Guild Guitars with his own signature model known for his capability of playing proficiently with a wide range of different guitar tunings. Chet Atkins called Doyle “one of the finest fingerpicking guitarists around” and Charles M. Young from Musician Magazine has observed Doyle’s awe-inspiring style lands “somewhere between Chet Atkins and Leo Kottke” and notes that “he is fast, accurate, and warm with amazing technique, cheerful melodies, plenty of drive…”
Some of Doyle’s best known works and interpretations are “Wabash Cannonball,” “Country Fried Pickin’,” “Chet Stuff,” “Be Still,” “Tricky Pickin’,” “Amazing Grace,” a medley of several U2 tunes, and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”
Doyle’s appreciation for various styles of music is reflected in his albums as they include signature compositions like “Jazz in the Box” and “Martha’s Kitchen” and powerful hymns such as “How Great Thou Art.” Gitarre 2000, one of Doyle’s eight solo albums, was released by Windham Hill Records, and his music has appeared on several of the label’s compilation albums like Here, There, and Everywhere (a tribute to the Beatles). In addition, his music has been heard on United Airlines, Air Canada, NPR’s Morning News and All Things Considered, in Disney’s California Adventure theme park, and even the Space Shuttle Atlantis in September of 2000.
Doyle’s early years as a guitarist took him around the world as he toured with The Stamps Quartet and later with Grand Ole Opry Star, Grandpa Jones. Doyle has since returned to the Grand Ole Opry for numerous performances, many appearing live on national television.
Doyle performs in venues ranging from theatres and performing arts centers, bluegrass festivals, and churches, to major conventions – such as the NAMM Show (Anaheim, CA and Nashville, TN), the Musikmesse (the largest music trade show in the world in Frankfurt, Germany), Music Live (UK), and the National Executive Institute, which is made up of honored FBI Agents, major city Police Chiefs, and Law Enforcement Officers from around the world. Doyle attracts record audiences in many continents around the world. He is a highly sought after performer for guitar workshops and in-store demonstrations and promotional events.
Doyle has played on stage with Les Paul, Chet Akins, Tommy Emmanuel, Duane Eddy, Peter Frampton, John Fogerty, Vince Gill and many other fellow guitar greats. He was awarded a brick in the Wall of Fame at “The Cavern Club” in Liverpool, England, and has been the performance and interview guest of the very popular Big George on the BBC in the UK. Doyle has wowed crowds with his extraordinary talent on countless tours, including a very special tour in which he was accompanied by a string orchestra with composer and conductor Tom Keene. Doyle has performed and been interviewed several times by Steve and Johnnie on WGN Chicago Radio. He played a special tribute to Chet Atkins at the Grand Ole Opry that aired multiple times on national television.
Doyle’s jaw-dropping talent and inspiring music will make a lasting impression on anyone – guitar players and music enthusiasts alike – at first listen.
