Fairport’s Cropredy Convention, which will be held for the 37th year in 2017, has announced its first tranche of artists, including: the Divine Comedy, Show of Hands, Richard Thompson and Marillion.
The festival, held from 10-12 August, will also be used to mark Fairport Convention’s golden anniversary with a series of celebratory performances planned. The first ever Fairport gig took place on 27 May 1967 and Saturday’s afternoon programme will start with a triple bill of performances from ‘early years’ former members of Fairport – Ashley Hutchings, Judy Dyble and Iain Matthews. The band themselves will open the festival on Thursday with a small performance, before performing a ‘marathon’ set on Saturday where they’ll be joined on stage by former members and guests.
The box-office for Cropredy will open on Wednesday 1 February when all concert and camping tickets will be made available. Head to www.fairportconvention.com for more information. And look out in a future issue for an in-depth interview with the band as they reflect on 50 years of music making.
