James Bay’s has announced that his new single ‘Let It Go’ will be released on March 8 while his debut album Chaos And The Calm will be out on March 23 ahead of his sold-out UK tour in April
2015 is shaping up to be a landmark year for singer-songwriter and guitarist James Bay. The BRITs Critic’s Choice winner and BBC Sound Poll runner up has been tipped across the board and releases the emotive and spine-tingling live favourite ‘Let It Go’ on March 8th. The track has received huge plaudits across the blogosphere as well as evoked an unprecedented audience reaction when James performed a stripped back version on BBC Radio One’s Live Lounge.
This is a song emblematic of Bay’s songwriting prowess; simple yet poignant lyrics combine with alluring guitar hooks and James’s distinctive, gravelly voice. Haunting and sparse, the song perfectly taps into those complex emotions one feels when a relationship is about to end and is yet another example of why this 24 year old singular talent is resonating with music fans around the world.
‘Let It Go’ is the second single to be taken from Bay’s debut album ‘Chaos and the Calm’ released on March 23rd.Recorded in Nashville at Blackbird Studios with Grammy award-winning Kings Of Leon producer Jacquire King, the albumchronicles the feelings, thoughts and fears of an artist in transition; the narrative deals with escapism, self-discovery, and the emotional adjustments required to keep up with his fast-changing circumstances over the last few years. The common thread weaving throughout the record is the acknowledgement of the trials that drove him out of his small home town of Hitchin in order to chase his dreams, and the battles he’s faced along the way.
Bay will be supporting the record with a sold out London KOKO show and his second sold out nationwide tour in April which includes two sold out shows at Shepherds Bush Empire. A captivating live performer who has spent the last 18 months on the road, he displays a rare honesty in his performances with audiences either dancing ecstatically or hushed to an intimate silence and hanging on his every word.
Last week James headlined R1’s Future Festival and performed at the BRITs Nominations Launch Event where he received his prestigious BRIT Award -watch here. He’s currently in Europe playing sold out shows and his recently announced debut U.S headline show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom sold out in just 60 seconds.
