Jason Isbell’s new Custom Signature Edition D-18 has now been unveiled. The Grammy-winning, Nashville-based star, who only recently graced Acoustic’s cover, worked with the Custom Shop at Martin Guitar to design the piece, which is closely modeled after Martin’s Golden Era series.
Isbell told Martin that his specific wish was for the instrument to be loud – of particular interest for lovers of the hearty sound produced by Jason and the 400 Unit, his regular band. And featuring a pre-aged Vintage Tone System (VTS) Adirondack spruce top, mahogany back and sides and a rear-shifted scalloped bracing, Isbell’s model will certainly be that. Further to that, the manufacturers used ‘hide glue’ – which, unlike newer synthetic reproductions, dissolves into the grain of the wood and creates more resonance throughout the instrument. Retailing
