Former Platform One College of Music student Jon Hart returns to Newport to play his debut headline show on the Isle of Wight alongside friend and renowned acoustic guitarist Chris Woods on 14 November 2014 at the Quay Arts Centre
It’s a common aspiration among musicians to headline a show at the preferred venue in your hometown, which holds special memories of your childhood. That dream is about to come true for former Platform One student Jon Hart, who returns to the Isle of Wight following a successful tour in September to give his debut headline show Red Room at the renowned Quay Arts Centre. Jon is delighted to be joined by close friend and internationally renowned acoustic guitarist Chris Woods, in what will be a memorable occasion for the independent artist, who has built a reputation for himself in the London scene as an established session musician and guitar tutor. The gig is the final highlight of a successful year for the Newport-based musician.
It is fitting that Jon should be accompanied to the Isle by confidant Woods, who has been largely responsible for Jon’s discovery on the UK acoustic scene. Their close friendship is a successful output of the new age of digital media, with the first introduction coming through Martin Guitar on Twitter just over a year ago. It wasn’t until three months later that Jon and Chris first met in person at the 2013 London Acoustic Guitar Show in Olympia, and after establishing a close affiliation, Chris invited Jon to feature and later host his esteemed London Guitar Night at the historic Troubadour, Earl’s Court. Earlier this month they both featured in association with Elixir Strings at this year’s London Acoustic Guitar Show, but the audience at the Quay Arts Centre will witness the very first written collaboration between the two guitar-smashing virtuosos, who will give the world premiere performance of their highly-anticipated track Red Room.
The show is the bi-product of Jon’s long-standing relationship with David Pontin, Director of Platform One College of Music, who successfully mentored Jon towards a place to read a degree in Music at Southampton University. Hart and Woods will both deliver a workshop to current students at the college before the concert, offering an insight into the career development of an independent musician.
David Pontin explains: “It is a delight to welcome Jon back to Platform One College of Music. He always had such a passion for music and used to write at least an album per week! He is such a driven musician and a superb role model for young musicians”.
Jon recalls: “I’m incredibly excited to be performing my first headline show on the Isle of Wight, and there’s no better place than the Quay Arts Centre in my hometown! It’ll be an experience to see so many familiar faces in the audience after a little while away – a special mention must go to David Pontin and Kevin Porter at Platform One College of Music, whose guidance and support 10 years ago put me on this path. I’m absolutely delighted to be joined by my close friend and guitar legend Chris Woods for this special night, who will no doubt blow your minds with his music. The audience are certainly in for a treat!”
Over the last few years, Woods has been regarded as one of the breakthrough outputs of the guitar scene, securing backing from several major guitar brands, including Martin Guitar and Elixir Strings. His latest video ‘Unhinge’ was recently released by international guitar label CandyRat records on their official YouTube channel.
Jon is working towards the release of his debut album ‘Reborn’ next Spring, which will be supported by a headline UK tour, and an inevitable return to the Isle of Wight.
