Yamaha Music London is set to host an intimate evening performance and Q&A session with Ralph McTell featuring special guests Albert Lee and Daniel Ho following the conclusion of the first day of the London Acoustic Show on Saturday September 12 2015.
Yamaha Music London Presents… Saturday Night Unplugged will take place at their three-storey showroom on London’s Wardour Street with doors for the event opening at 6.30pm for a 7.30pm show start. The event is free with a limited capacity, but you can book you place via their website.
One of the great storytellers, Ralph McTell, is now celebrating almost 50 years on the road. Known for his virtuoso guitar style, he is a prolific and gifted songwriter. With a style that invites you into a unique world, he weaves a narrative with lyrics and guitar lines that are both significant and poignant. Ralph made his debut in 1968 with the album Eight Frames A Second and in 1974 the release of Streets Of London earned him an Ivor Novello Award. In 1993, Nanci Griffith recorded ‘From Clare to Here’ on her Grammy winning album and in 2002 he was presented with the prestigious lifetime achievement award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. This close-up and intimate performance by one of folk music most notable patrons will provide an opportunity to ask questions and hear his stories firsthand, plus Albert will join Ralph as special guest for an exclusive acoustic performance.
Described as the “ultimate virtuoso” by Eric Clapton, legendary British country–rock guitarist Albert Lee was heavily involved in the emerging rock ‘n’ roll scene of London’s 1960s and cut his teeth gigging with the likes of Jimmy Page, Bob Xavier and Chris Farlowe & The Thunderbirds before forming Heads, Hands & Feet with Chas Hodges. The US beckoned as he became more involved in country music, touring with The Crickets, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Emmons and Joe Cocker. Albert Lee’s brand new solo album Highwayman is an intimate collection of classic acoustic covers.
Joining Ralph and Albert will be joined by Daniel Ho. Daniel’s simple philosophy of presenting music with sincerity and artistry encompasses six consecutive Grammy Awards, number-one albums on national airplay charts, and top-ten albums on the Billboard charts. Over the course of his career, Ho has contributed to more than 30 records, ranging from pop to smooth jazz and contemporary Hawaiian music.
Ralph and Albert appear at Yamaha Music London Presents… Saturday Night Unplugged in advance of autumn tour dates with newly released live DVDs of their 70th anniversary concerts, available for purchase at the event. Yamaha Music London will provide guests with free food and drink at the George pub, opposite their showroom in the heart of Soho, from 5pm onwards.
